I am an environmental studies major. I fully expect my fair share of tree-huggers in my classes. (Myself being a fish-hugger.) But I have to tell you how sick and tired I am of the dirtiness I have to deal with. I have classes full of nasty, icky, gross boys, who haven't showered in who knows how long. They have ratted, matted and nasty hair, some in dread-locks. White boy should not have dreads, yech! I know water is a precious resource, especially in the west, but a quick shower every now and then would be fantastic.
Girls, who dress like their mothers from the 60's. The hippie movement died for a reason, so stop wearing hair bands around your head like an Indian. Only Indians should do this, otherwise it just looks stupid. Girls, put some clothes on. You are not hanging out by the pool and no one wants to see your altogether. Girls riding skateboards, because the boys will think I'm cool... No they think you are a dope. You can't ride, you can't do tricks. They know you are just doing this so they are impressed, and well, they're not!
People, it is time to take responsibility for your actions and your well-being. Take a shower, comb your hair. Think of the people around you and the consequences you bring to yourself, by not having any friends or a date for Saturday night!

chinese
I am back in school for the fall. My last semester before graduation!!! And what do I do? I took the requisite classes, then I added mandarin. What was I thinking? While my mouth can make the sounds I forget what sounds I am supposed to make. We have started with Pinyin, where they use English letters to represent the initials and finals. I do OK on most of it, i is ee, ai is i like Thailand, but e makes a uh sound. De is duh. It gets pretty confusing.
M and I hope to go back to China one day. We would like to be able to get around on our own. China was beautiful, but it was only the historical sights, not the real China. Now if only I can, well, you know...

youth
The fountain of youth is just a myth, but I am starting to see the allure. I have come to the conclusion that I am not as smart as I thought I used to be. As I'm aging, I am discovering that I am not as good, as fast, or as cool as I used to be. I can't recover very quickly, and I seem to get the crap beat out of me on a regular basis any more. My brain tells me I am still 18, but my body tends to think differently.
I realize: age is only as old as you lie and tell people you are, and I keep trying to tell others I am in my 60's with a great plastic surgeon. I'm going for a sympathy vote, but no one believes me, and sympathy... what's that.
I guess I will have to start acting my age, and pretending I'm still young and full of vitality (read mischief, trouble, spice, and everything nice).

people
I have spent most of my life trying to understand the human race, and yet, it still eludes me. I have had a run-in with petty revenge recently, and am trying to figure out how it got so out of control. I'm hoping the person involved is just being childish and it isn't any reflection back on me. A few stickers were put around this persons desk. Person is always naming things, from pens to staplers, you name it and so has this person. The next day when I come in, this person is so angry, and I'm sure egged on by the most selfish, insecure, childish person I know, that they have covered my desk with papers and trash and about 100 stickers. All stemming from 5 to 10 stickers. This person is great at dishing out the "fun", but they sure can't take it. I just wish I had realized this before making an enemy.

4th of july
Ok. So it has been a while with no post. Yeah, yeah, I seem to have other things to occupy my time lately, or I just don't have anything to say...
I spent all last week sick, sick, sick. Glad that's over.
For the 4th we went up to a friends ranch in Heber. They have a huge piece of property and quite a few horses, Belgian's I think. We got to play with the horses, but not ride them. They are a huge pulling horse. The best one was Nico. Nico is famous, sort of. He was in a Patrick Swazye movie "Tall Tales" and he is the sweetest thing. Nico probably weighs in at a ton, and he loves to nudge and get his nose petted. Unfortunately, when he nudges it just about sends you sprawling. They have a horse who looked ready to foal, although I could get no confirmation about that, and there was a new colt, who was the cutest thing ever!
After horse time, we had a great bar-b-cue and a show. One of the horse trainers came in and gave us a demonstration of the horses abilities. It was cool.
M's allergies kicked up pretty bad. His eyes were all red and the sclera was swollen and moving around whenever he blinked. Nasty! So, you can tell there was no romantic staring into each others eyes that night, as it just made me cry.
The fireworks left something to be desired. They were ok, but definitely small town.
It was nice to get away, even if it was only for the night. We got to spend some time with friends that M sees almost every day, but I don't see to often due to school.

exciting week
What a week I have had. I just have to tell you about all of the wacky things, I saw or did over the last few days...
I flipped off an old lady the other day. traffic was pretty light with only a street sweeper in the old lady's lane. She purposefully changed lanes and cut me off, after she had looked at me time and time again. She didn't use her turn signal, she just kept looking at me, and then, there she went. Total surprise! And she missed my bumper by about a foot. The sun roof was open, so I flipper her off. she knew she was a bad girl, as she was watching me in her rear view window and waved back.
Later that day, I saw a guy (a long haired, red-neck looking guy, probably really nice, just tacky looking) walking down a busy thoroughfare with out his shirt on. I yelled out the window to put his shirt back on.
I followed a cop for about 15 miles of surface streets the other day. He was either a very distracted driver, or he was drunk at nine in the morning. He kept sliding across the center divide line and then jerking the car back into the correct lane. Crazy!
I have a classmate, who must have sat in the very back of the room, or never showed up to class. I found it interesting that I have never noticed him before, as he is very well spoken (we had a verbal final) but he looks like a homeless, Hasidic Jew. A very strange combination of styles.
M took me out to dinner after my mid summer finals were over and low and behold, I saw crocodile Dundee. No, not the real one. this guy had on the hat with croc teeth around the band, he had on 3 arm bands located on his biceps, and bad Bermuda shorts. I kept looking for the knife. I can only hope he had an Australian accent...
It amazes me how many different people there are in this world. They say everyone has a twin, and I can only hope mine is crazier than I am.

legalized nudity
So, Dad and I were talking one day, and as our habit, we started to solve the world's problems...
We decided we need to legalize nudity. Here is a list of some of the problems we could fix if more people walked around naked, not all of the time (burr winter), but by having the freedom to do so.
Obesity - people would work out more and gym's would sponsor the bill, because they would make a ton of money from all the new recruits.
Diabeties - people would take better care of themselves.
Cardiac health problems - same as above
Manners - people would learn not to stare at others who are different, teens would learn that bodies just aren't that interesting.
Pollution - less detergent for cleaning clothes and less electricity need to run all the air conditioners in the summer
Teen pregnancy and promiscuity- bodies are funny looking and the mystery would be gone for those inquisitive teens.
Little boys - would learn to control their little body parts at a young age and hopefully keep that control as they grow up into nice, pollite men.
Shame - we would stop being embarrassed by that extra 20 pounds. We would stop judging others by what they look like.
Sun screen - sales would sky rocket (another sponsor to the bill)
Healthy foods would become cheaper - with more people eating from the outer edges of the market, you would have less packaged food and with a higher demand prices would go down so more people could afford to eat their veggies. Junk food sales would go down.
Movie tickets - I'm not sure if the price would go up or down? Up to make up revenue or down to encourage people to actually show up.
Cancer - there is that thing about taking better care of yourself.
Smoking - people wouldn't smoke so much if others could see the damage (eeww you look old!)
Motorcycles - people would race inbetween cars on the packed freeway or zip in and out of traffic (morons) if they thought of having scars on their 'you-know-whats'.

where did all the sunshine go?
it's raining, it's pouring, the old man is drowning...
It's weeks like these I question global warming. I live in a desert, 2nd driest state in the nation. I has rained for 3 weeks straight ans going to rain for at least 10 more days, according to the weather report. We have turned into Seattle. We have enough coffee shops, we don't need even more. Grunge has long gone in the fashion world. And I can't stand yuppies any more than I can run over them with my tiny car.
I wonder to my self what this world is coming to. I study the environment at university, and all the information and predictions says it should be 115 degrees and no a drop of rain for months. Yet here I sit, a deluge of water. Flooding homes, streets, and parking lots. I guess I need to get my rain coat back from the dry cleaners and I should go by some cute wellies, huh?

predictable
I think I have become predicable to my school chums. They have come to depend on me, and I'm not sure it is a good thing. 3 of my classmates have left today and have asked me for my notes. Now, usually, I am fine with this as I am known to take pretty good notes. This class is not that interesting so my notes are a little thin, and now I am cursed to share. Now don't get me wrong, I like these classmates and I love to help. I'm not sure who's bad karma this is.

neighbors
My great neighbor... I don;t get a chance to talk to her much, I see her husband a lot more. Well, she happened to be outside when I got home from school today. I walked over to ask about the cleaning lady she has working for , and has been for about 4 years. As I'm asking, she interrupts and asks if I would like some flowers cut fresh from her garden. The were so pretty and smell wonderful. (She did eventually answer my question.)
It is great when someone you don't know very well can brighten up your day by just doing something so small. :)

excitement
I sometimes wish my life was exciting and full of plans. I think of all the beautiful places I could go, the people I could meet, and yet I don't want to leave my house to get it done. I barely leave the house to meet friends as it is, and they lead busy lives, just the same. There are flowers in Paris during spring. I want to watch the great white sharks breach off South Africa. I want to dive with the whale sharks and manta rays near Yap. I want, I want, I want, but there is that money thing and the school thing and, oh yeah, the work thing. I suppose there are a lot of things I should be doing, like homework or writing a paper that is due in 2 days, and I know I shouldn't procrastinate, but it is the same thing I do with the list of exciting things I want to do. Hopefully, if I wait long enough they will come to me. Yes, I'm waiting for the future.
Yeah, I know, that is a bad way to be. I have a great cop-out, though. I can do all the cool things as soon as I finish school. Then, I can get a full nights sleep and start to plan for my new found freedom. Well, at least until graduate school.

not professors
Instructors who are not professors in a college setting should not be allowed to teach. I am in a 5000 level class and we just spent an hour on water and its chemical makeup. It's made of hydrogen and oxygen. At this point everyone has had chemistry and yeah, a quick review is great but an hour? sheesh!

school
So, school has started and the stress has risen. I have to many classes scheduled in to little time and no free hours to spend with friends. (I have three papers due next week) I know, that is life, isn't it?
My girlfriend is having a "heath ledger" movie day and night to raise money for MS this Saturday, I wish I could go. I haven't seen her forever and I would really like to show my support for her and the cause.
I miss Florida, M and I had no worries except where to find food.

home
Well, we are home now. And a s great as vacation always is, it is nice to sleep in your own bed, isn't it?
School starts next week, and I am surely not looking forward to that. I know I only have a few more classes to take , but I am so tired of being stressed out. Oh well, It's my bed and now I have to lie in it. I am looking forward to 1 of my classes, Ocean Env. I spend most of my vacations near the ocean and I love being in the water, so I think that I will learn a lot and maybe come out of it with a new outlook.

Miami
I know, no pictures,yet... I have some, I just didn't bring the chord to transfer the data.
We spent 2 days in Miami and had a wonderful time. We spent entirely too much on 2 drinks, but we the cheapest sushi ever! And it was pretty good too. We saw a lot of very strange people on the beach and on the main street, Washington. Spent some time shopping and people watching at Lincoln Street shops. Spend some time playing in the water and M got a little bit if a sunburn, mine is worse. We are having a great time! Found a drunk, asleep, and we tried to get a picture to add to our collection but the owner of the cafe came out and woke him up. It was great, he had a guitar and spaghetti on his chest. Out like a light.
We've moved on to Ft. Lauderdale for the rest of our trip, and plan on just taking it easy...

School's out for summer!
Ok. Not really. Schools out for 11 days. This past semester has been difficult, and as you can tell I haven't posted anything in quite a while. I have been trying to keep my head above water, so to speak, and have found all of the things that I find fun have been but to the side. Hopefully, this next semester won't be as bad and I can get back to the 'joys' of blogging. I am sure my sister-in-law has given up on me, seeing as how I am so pathetic.
M and I are planning a trip to Florida for Saturday. It was supposed to be a dive trip, but with no fault of his own, M took a header down the stairs two weeks ago and fractured his scapula. No SCUBA for you! I am looking forward to 85 degree weather and sandy beaches, that's for sure!
